Have you seen Adobe Flash CC?
As Flash® developers we have been struggling to retain our identities, our job roles changed overnight. In the process I had to fill roles to which I may be ill suited in order to retain my billable hours and I admit I had a hard time letting go. Not letting go of the technology but of the enjoyment I got from creating the things I did and the privilege of getting paid to do it. I was left wondering where to next and I felt like one of the star players being benched because the coaches didn't understand the game. It doesn't matter how often I try and set the record straight people are either unable or unwilling to understand that Adobe Flash is a program, a content creation tool that still has a place in the industry. Flash player running in the browser was the guilty party and exiled from the web, instead all things Flash were relegated to the basement where indie gamers and some mobile app developers eagerly took up the mantle. I started using Adobe Flash back in version 4 and I have spent too many long hours getting to where I am. I remember how excited I was back then and how much I enjoyed learning flash in the years after while honing the tools of my trade. I remember when Actionscript 3.0 was released and how it changed the game. The change left some people behind unable to keep up while attracting others seeing this new potential. I remember how tough the last year and a half has been and how Flash developers have scrambled to adapt to our new environment. During this time I have been in a state of flux trying to make sense of the event that had happened always looking for the silver linning. I believe our futures are not solely in changing our games to fit in but in the coaches understanding how the game itself has changed. We still need to be out on the field. I have little care if my final product is a published swf or canvas animation, it is the tools that I enjoy so much and the rich experience that I create as a end result that gets my creative juices flowing. Sure there are other ways to ply your hardened skills but the skies are getting brighter. I am really excited about Adobe Flash CC which is the latest release from Adobe check it out. It really doesn't matter if you are riding the swings or the roundabout it all comes back around, eventually…
